چکیده

The measurements of energy loss distributions obtained in electron scattering experiments at high momentum transfer are presented for Xe, Ar and methane. The spectra show a large variety of intensity distributions, clearly different from those obtained in measurements at the dipole limit. The fraction of the intensity present in the energy loss distribution compared to the elastic peak is significant, but is in line with the reduction of the elastic cross section due to absorption. It is argued that, if similar effects are present in the condensed phase, they should be dealt with in any quantitative analysis of electron transport in matter, as is often done using Monte Carlo simulations. This argument is worked out in some detail for Reflection Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

HELICITY AND PLANAR AMPLITUDES IN PION-PROTON SCATTERING AT 6.0 GeV/c

In addition to optimal conditions, invariant laws of Lorentz, parity and time reversal are imposed to find the relation between observables (spin rotation parameters) and bilinear combination of helicity amplitudes in pion-proton elastic scattering at 6.0 GeV/c. By normalizing the differential cross-section to unity, the magnitudes of helicity amplitudes and the angle between them are dete...

Elastic α - transfer in the elastic scattering of 16 O + 12 C

The elastic scattering 16 O+ 12 C angular distributions at 16 O bombarding energies of 100.0, 115.9 and 124.0 MeV and their optical model description including the α-particle exchange contribution calculated in the Coupled Reaction Channel approach are presented. The angular distributions show not only the usual diffraction pattern but also, at larger angles, intermediate structure of refractiv...

Detection of Melanoma Skin Cancer by Elastic Scattering Spectra: A Proposed Classification Method

Introduction: There is a strong need for developing clinical technologies and instruments for prompt tissue assessment in a variety of oncological applications as smart methods. Elastic scattering spectroscopy (ESS) is a real-time, noninvasive, point-measurement, optical diagnostic technique for malignancy detection through changes at cellular and subcellular levels, especially important in ear...

Probing internucleus potential with large-angle quasi-elastic scattering

Recent measurements for fusion cross section at energies around the Coulomb barrier have systematically indicated a significant deviation of fusion cross sections from a prediction of double-folding model. It has been argued that the deviation can be accounted for if one uses a large value of surface diffuseness parameter for a Woods-Saxon internuclear potential. We investigate this problem usi...

Elastic light scattering from free sub-micron particles in the soft X-ray regime.

We report the first experimental results on angle-resolved elastic light scattering in the soft X-ray regime, where free sub-micron particles in the size regime between 150 and 250 nm are studied in the gas phase by using a continuous particle beam. Two different types of studies are reported: (i) Angle-resolved elastic light scattering experiments provide specific information on the scattering...
